Children’s Centre

St George's Lower School and Leighton Buzzard Children Centre

St George’s Lower School has now taken on the management of the towns much loved Children’s Centre, which delivers services at both The Moorings on Van Dyke Road and the Roundabout Centre on the school’s site located on East Street.

Our Children’s centre provides Universal services for children aged 0 to 12 months old and for some families’ this support will continue until the child turns 5 years old, aiming to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life. We are working hard to make sure all children are well prepared for school, healthy and happy regardless of background or family circumstances.

Claire Roberts is the Children’s Centre branch manager, her team of 5 family support and outreach workers, play session workers and countless volunteers support the towns young families with quality provision and valued services.

These services vary according to our current timetable but may include:

  • Somewhere children can make friends and play.
  • Integrated early education and childcare.
  • Support for parents – including advice on parenting, local childcare options and access to specialist services for families.
  • Child and family health services – ranging from health screening, health visitor services to breast-feeding support.

Five outcomes at our Core

  • Be healthy – Enjoying good physical, mental and emotional health and living a healthy lifestyle.
  • Stay safe – Being protected from harm and neglect and growing up able to look after themselves.
  • Enjoy and achieve – Getting the most out of life and developing broad skills for adulthood.
  • Make a positive contribution – Supporting the community, environment and society by engaging in decision making and positive law abiding behaviour.
  • Achieve economic wellbeing – Engaging in further education, employment or training to support living in households free from low income.

The NHS and your Children’s Centre

Central Bedfordshire Health Partnership means that the staff and services delivered through the Centre are fully integrated with local health providers, for example health visitors, midwives and speech and language therapists. In addition to NHS teams, the Centre staff work closely with ‘core offer’ partners such as Job Centre +, child-minders and the local authority.

Our Timetable

We publish a new timetable of events and sessions each term, which include a number of new services and some old favourites. The times of some of the sessions can change so please check before you come.
